Inspired by nature and the beauty surrounding me, I use textures and colors to bring out my vision. Sharing my paintings with the viewer takes their experiences and allows the work to grow beyond my initial intentions.

About Gary Terry

Gary Terry Contemporary abstract artist Gary Terry was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon. As a native Oregonian, Gary gained an intimate appreciation of the natural world.

Gary was artistically inclined and enjoyed drawing and painting at an early age. Many of the great artists throughout history have influenced Gary's work. Gary is especially fond of the American Expressionists of the 1950s: Jackson Pollack, Lee Krasner, Mark Rothko, and Joan Mitchell.

Through his work, Gary shares his love of nature with the viewer, using the textures and palette of Oregon and the Great Northwest, which he and his family call home.

Gary attended the Colorado Institute of Art and excelled in illustration. After graduating from the Institute, Gary continued his fine art education at Southern Oregon State University, becoming proficient in several other media. Gary studied painting and drawing under the guidance of Peg Sjogren and Cody Bustamante. He learned printmaking under master printmaker Lyle Matoush. In addition, he studied sculpture under Tom Knudsen. Gary won numerous awards for excellence while attending Southern Oregon State University.

A versatile artist, Gary has been an illustrator and printer for a Central Oregon screen-print company, creating illustrations of bull riders, bronc riders, and ODFW watchable wildlife T-shirts. He has been a senior multi-media designer for an educational software company. He has also been a visual artist for WDSE/PBS Eight, a public television station in Duluth, MN. Gary produced the station's graphic designs, illustrations, and animation videos for all locally produced programs.
